Many Skis in One: Four Ways to Customize FloSkis

Many Skis in One: Four Ways to Customize FloSkis

November 03, 2019 2 Comments

There are four adjustments available with FloSkis to customize your personalized needs:

1. Binding position:
Forward most adjustment is best for high speed.  It provides more stability by  even edge pressure.
Furthest rear position is best for moguls, powder, tree skiing and easy turning. Also provides less torque to knees and greater safety from knee injuries.
2. Cant shims:
Cant shims provide more edge hold with less tail skidding for total carved railroad track like turns. They come in 1.5, 2, and 3 degrees. 3 degrees work best in powder and crud. 1.5 degrees are best in extreme icy conditions.
3. Rubber tail stiffener:
Tail stiffener provides increased tail hold in the rearward binding position by increasing the camber and stiffness of the tail. They do not effect the ski performance in the forward position.
4. Ramp angle:
Ramp angle shims provide better edge pressure and balance with less stress to the knee patella tendon. "Lessens knee tendonitis"
It also increases tail hold in the rear binding positions. It comes normally in 1.5 and 2 degrees. Increasing the ramp angle also softens the tail flex by vertue of the physics. 3 degrees is also possible for a softer tail flex.
It is best to start with factory settings and make adjustments later to suit your style of skiing and conditions.
FloSkis are unique because they are many skis in one because of these adjustments.

92 year old's FloSkis Story

92 year old's FloSkis Story

May 28, 2019

The following is Frank's story:FloSkis Testimonial, Frank

At 92 and not having skied for 10 years, most of my gear—skis, boots, bindings—were way out of date, as was I. But, on impulse, I decided to go to Mammoth and see if skiing might still be an option for the old guy.

"Floskis came out of left field and changed my whole ski world! Totally by surprise! And totally for the miraculously better."

Before I saw FloSkis, I knew I should start with the new stuff—new skis, boots and bindings—for me that meant demo rentals to try everything out. Folks in Mammoth rentals offered me suggestions and I said OK, fit me with whatever you like and I’ll try several.  I quickly realized  I had to start from scratch, even learn again how to get off the lift. I used to be a  good skier.

After a while, I found myself barely negotiating intermediate blue and easier green runs, having to take breaks often to regain my energy. I was really undecided about skiing when I noticed these strange looking golden skis which I’d never seen before but were very eye-catching, beautiful and interesting looking skis. Fortunately, Adrian, who was skiing on them  noticed my curiosity and recognized me and said “Frank, you seem interested, how would you like to try them?"

So yeah, that’s what I was here for. Try out skis. You bet, Adrian, let’s do it!

Immediately I realized even before I finished my first run on Floskis I was already surprised, amazed, delighted, almost unbelieving that I could suddenly be skiing on the best skis I’d ever known in my life!!! Such ease in turning, so much easier than my rental demos which already had plenty of curvature in their configuration. These skis even seemed to love the crud off on the sides of the groomed run or the earlier-groomed but now messed and torn up by boarders and lots of skiers, all that bad stuff which had forever intimidated me but now so friendly. Hmmm. YES!!!

At the end of day on Floskis I told Adrian—who I’d meanwhile learned was a retired NASA engineer, Apollo and such, who upon retirement worked as a Vail ski instructor when he conceived and designed FloSkis and now these sleek golden marvels were his baby—I told him I’d buy a pair. Whew! Decision, and none of the demos I’d been trying made the cut once Floskis surfaced from out of nowhere.

I now found myself feeling reasonably capable again to explore some black runs and continue improving my skills for next season’s slopes anywhere. And yes I could ski many runs before I needed a rest break.

You can check out all the technical innovation whys and wherefores by perusing Adrian’s website: FloSkis.com. These high tech skis, by design requires a fraction of the energy while providing improved performance and safety in all conditions from that of traditional skis.

Yep, this 92 year old is back and skiing is definitely an option for the old guy skiing on FloSkis. They were remarkably superior to provide easier skiing in any snow condition than any skis I’ve ever known.

World Championship Winner Using FloShocks Technology

World Championship Winner Using FloShocks Technology

November 21, 2017

FloShocks technology will improve the performance of any ski or snowboard allowing professional racers to outperform anyone in their class.

In the 2000/2001 International Ski Federation World Championship alpine races in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, Swiss snowboarder Ursula Bruhin took home a gold medal using the FloShocks system in the Parallel Slalom race.  Not only did she win the race using FloShocks technology, but she set a World Record from her 64th starting position to end in 1st place.

“It was hard work when I got to the start in qualification,” she said, “and the slope suffers a lot when 63 riders have raced it before but I’m glad I made it. It was good to prove that the ISF riders are in good shape as well and can make it up even from that far behind. The course was nice, pretty technical, but I wished we had better weather conditions.”

Ski Binding Adjustments

Ski Binding Adjustments

October 21, 2017

Ski binding adjustments can compensate for each skiers leg alignment and style as well as the built in alignment of different ski boots:

  1. The binding assembly can be moved to select the snow conditions from hard pack to deep powder by using the included 5 mm hex wrench located in the back of the riser.
  2. The cant angle can be adjusted by using the 2 1/4" square plastic shims located under the riser 4 bolts.  Flo Skis come standard with 2 degree cants. They are marked left and right.

NOTE: CHECK THE TIGHTNESS OF THE FOUR BOLTS BEFORE EACH USE.

Tyrolia SLR 100 Instructions

  1. There is a silver metal tab at the rear base of the heel unit. Lift this tab with a flat blade screwdriver.
  2. Without snow on the bottom of the boot, place the toe all the way into the toe unit and move the heel unit until it makes contact with the boot heel. Push down on metal tab to lock in place.
  3. Click the boot into the binding and notice how much of the metal tab is exposed. I/2 the tab should be showing. No more and no less. See photo and adjust per 4 below.
  4. If most of the tab is showing, move the heel unit one number forward. If most the tab is hidden move the heel back one number.
  5. See SR 100 instructions 9-10 for the other settings.

Forward pressure adjustment with boot clicked in binding:

Tyrolia SR100 Binding Adjustment

  1. There is a black lever on both sides of the heel unit. Push it in the down position. This releases the heel to slide back and forth.
  2. Move the heel back and hold the boot toe all the way into the toe piece.
  3. Slide the heel unit all the way forward until it firmly touches the heel of the boot.
  4. Release the lever to lock the heel unit.
  5. Click the boot into the binding. (See photo)
  6. At the rear of the heel unit, you will see a slotted metal tab. Under that tab is a small metal plate with multiple small groves. With the boot in the binding, the slotted metal tab should be aligned over any of the groves located on the metal tab.
  7. If all the groves are covered by the tab, the binding should moved one letter forward until #6 is accomplished.
  8. If all the groves are exposed, move the heel unit back one letter until #6 is accomplished.
  9. Both heel units should be on the same number or letter. Remember that letter or number in case someone else tries the skis.
  10. Now adjust the DIN setting on the toe and heel units to the same number. You should ask a ski shop for that number. The wrong DIN setting could result in premature release, or no release; either scenario could result in injury. You can use the number from your old skis if it held ok. All bindings heel and toe units should have the same DIN number system.
